With the Natural Resources Challenge, NPS made a commitment to improving its stewardship of park natural resources through the expansion of science based learning and management. Parks are improving the integration of science, resource monitoring, and natural resource management through:

  1. Explicitly linking NPS science programs and management in their objectives and processes;
  2. Identifying the institutions and approaches for linking these elements based on critical needs;
  3. Expanding or creating new partnership between park managers and scientists; and
  4. Providing a framework for adaptively learning and applying new information and knowledge.

The Inventory and Monitoring Program and the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center both strive to help meet these goals and support the NPS commitment to science-based management of park resources.
